- We use nearly 100 billion plastic bags every year and less than 1 percent are recycled.
- The landfills are filling up fast with plastic bags and it takes nearly 1000 years for them to break down. They are creating membranes in the landfills.
- Plastic bags litter the roadsides and fields.
- Streams and waterways are being clogged by plastic bags.
- Wildlife and farm animals are being harmed by ingesting plastic bags they find in the fields and waterways.
- It takes an estimated 12 million barrels of oil to make the bags the US consumes each year.
